L'ermitage Chateau and Villas is in the stunning wine region of Franschhoek, a village rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty, and less than an hour's drive from Cape Town. The entire facility comprises the Chateau and 36 Villas. These exude warmth and cosiness without negotiating on opulence and style. Being situated within a small village, there are many amenities close by, including restaurants, shops and entertainment.
The French Huguenots were the first settlers in this area and were mostly farmers and traders. These one discovered that the arable land was ideal for grapes and so began a thriving industry. The village and L'ermitage Chateau and Villas reflect the French influence in their architecture, cobbled roads and décor. This village is unique in its ability to integrate modern amenities into an old-world destination without compromising on either.
Homage to Huguenots
It was as far back as 1688 when 200 French Huguenots arrived at the Cape in search of peace. This was a continent of the unknown, forcing these new arrivals to be courageous and bold in their discoveries. These ones settled on the land and began to cultivate it. Today, there remain many testimonies to their lives and culture, entrenched within the Franschhoek heritage.
The L'ermitage Chateau comprises six bedrooms, each boasting enviable views of the Franschhoek Mountains. Rooms have been designed with the ultimate in style and luxury in mind and are fitted with king-sized beds (or twin beds), air-conditioning, television, satellite, DVD player, Internet connectivity, music system, electronic safe, telephone, home automation system, bath, shower and a small kitchenette. Some rooms have a private balcony from which to absorb the awesome scenery. Guests have secure parking at their disposal.
The L'ermitage Villas line the cobbled streets of the village and boast breath-taking views of the surrounding Western Cape. They are large, comfortable and indulgent. There are 17 one-bedroom units and 17 two-bedroom units as well as two three-bedroom units. The kitchen is well-equipped. In addition, each villa is outfitted with a king-sized bed (or twin beds), a separate bath and shower, Internet connectivity, air-conditioning, safe, washing machine, tumble dryer, television, DVD player, music system, telephone, home automation system, secure parking and private balcony.

The dishes on offer at the L'ermitage restaurant make the most of the locally available ingredients, fresh flavours and the inventive twists of the chef. The French ambience adds to the authenticity of this experience and promises a memorable dining extravaganza for all.
Epicerie is the local deli, also fully-stocked with essential groceries for the convenience of the guests. French delicacies and favourites are on offer here, including cheese and meats. Local South African goods are also available, and shoppers are assured of delicious breads, pastries, preserves and more. In addition, this deli has an area where guests are invited to relax with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and enjoy the splendour of South African flora.
L'ermitage village exudes a charming old-world character that is both romantic and mystical. It is within this setting that many have opted to celebrate their special day. The spectacular setting of mountains and fynbos promise a memorable occasion and stunning photographs.
There is a chapel in the village, which is non-denominational to cater to a wider variety of couples. The stained glass windows and balcony add to the romantic ambience and provide fantastic photo opportunities.
For wedding ceremonies or simply a place of worship and reflection, Caroline Chapel is available to all guests during their stay at L'ermitage. It is a non-denominational sanctuary from hectic city life.
There are conference facilities for up to 60 delegates within the L'ermitage Village. Experienced and professional staff members are on hand to cater to the desires of the corporate guests and the facilities are of a high standard.
The relaxation and comfort of our guests is of paramount importance. The Serenite Spa is there to ease the bodies and minds of our valued clientele within an environment of luxurious pampering. The three double therapy rooms (all named after delicious red wines) are each equipped with their own sauna, double shower, spa bath and lounge.
Experienced personnel use only the best specialised products from a range called Wisdom of Africa. These products combine healing and energising ingredients. Nature is introduced into many of the therapies and treatments in order to reunite the physical body with the natural world around it.
The surrounding fauna and flora of L'ermitage is valuable and precious. For this reason, even the construction of the facilities and amenities was conducted in an ecologically responsible way. Water courses were redesigned to accommodate the needs of the environment. In addition, several initiatives were undertaken to protect certain plant species. In fact, an endangered species (the Serruria Gracilis Protea) was even discovered during these investigations.
The L'ermitage Estate adheres to strict ISO 14001 standards and is regularly audited by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
L'ermitage measures 27 000m² and is nestled within the Fransche Hoek Estate in Franschhoek. This is an important wine farm region of the Western Cape and South Africa, producing some of the finest vintages known globally.
L'ermitage is only 50km from Cape Town International Airport and 73km from the Mother City's CBD. The surrounding wine farm hubs of Paarl and Stellenbosch are both approximately 30km away.
From Cape Town International Airport, take the N2 towards Stellenbosch and turn off onto the R310 at Baden Powell. Continue along the R310 over Helshoogte Pass. Then, turn right onto the R45, through Franschhoek. Turn left at the Huguenot Monument and continue for 1km until you reach the hotel's gates.
From Cape Town, take the N1 to Paarl, and then a R45 (Klapmuts) turn-off. Continue straight along the R45 to the Franschhoek turn off and then turn right into Franschhoek (not leaving the R45). Turn left at the Huguenot Monument and continue for 1km until you reach the hotel's gates.
