About Bush House

The Bush House is situated 3.5 hours from the commercial and cultural hub of South Africa, Johannesburg. This retreat is concealed within the spectacular Madikwe Game Reserve and promises visitors a unique safari experience that is sure to delight the senses and sooth the mind. The magic of the Bush Lodge is in its natural beauty, the abundance of wildlife that visit the guests' doorsteps, the superior service and the undeniable sense of family fun and relaxation that permeates its air.

The Bush House is a very special escape from the outside world, where friends are made and memories last forever. The warm welcome, the exquisite views from private balconies and the excellent cuisine all combine to guarantee an unforgettable bushveld experience, while never losing that homely feel. The Madikwe Reserve boasts one of the largest populations of African Elephants. Other animals include the White Rhino, Wild Dog and numerous fascinating bird species.

The Bush Lodge comprises six rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities, superior linen, air-conditioning, fans, hair dryers, separate baths and showers, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Four of the rooms boast a private balcony, while one has stunning views of the lush garden and the other enjoys the serenity of a water feature. Although the lodge is secluded, mobile phone signal is not negatively affected. The Bush House is equipped with 220V electricity.

Breakfasts, teas and dinners are always a special occasion at the Bush House, where dedicated chefs are committed to providing excellent and innovative dishes to excite the taste buds. Whether breakfasting in the garden or enjoying a hearty meal in the traditional boma, guests are sure to savour the authentic African flavours. Dietary requirements are accommodated as far as possible.

Relaxation is the name of the game at the Bush House. The garden and swimming pool are the ideal venues to soak up the South African sun, breathe in fresh bush air and listen to the sounds of the veld. The ample lawn makes for a perfect playing field for rugby, cricket or a game of football. Trained game guides conduct two game drives every day to allow guests to see as many animal species as possible. Alternatively, walking along the nature trail inside the camp means a closer, more intimate experience of the plants and animals of South Africa.

This area is particularly abundant in terms of its natural resources. Plants and animals abound. For this reason, daily game drives are an absolute must for guests. These are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon to ensure that visitors get to see as many different species as possible as they emerge in the cooler hours to hunt, drink water or play. Some of these wild residents include lions, elephants and buffaloes. During the late game drive, the sun sets and nocturnal animals make their first appearance. As darkness descends, a myriad stars become visible.

A bush walk is another recommended experience and provides a close-up view of the plants, insects, spoor and droppings of a range of exciting animals. Feel the bark of the tall trees, smell the colourful blooms and touch the tall grasses with your fingertips.

Summer is usually hot and winter cold in this area of South Africa. Rain occurs during summer, which leaves the air crisp and clean. Visitors should bring a range of clothing that can be applied in layers as each day progresses. The sun is harmful and precautions should be taken to avoid burning. Spring and autumn are short seasons with milder conditions. Summer tends to yield more young, which are always popular sights for young and old alike.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is located in South Africa's North West Province. It is managed by the North West Parks and Tourism Board and is home to a wide array of fauna and flora.
