St. James Manor House is situated in one of the Western Cape's most charming fishing villages, Kalk Bay. Overlooking the ocean, this 5-star manor is the ultimate retreat for city-slickers. In addition, it is only 30 minutes' drive from the city centre of Cape Town and about 40 minutes from Cape Town's international airport, making it convenient and accessible.
As guests look out across False Bay and the Indian Ocean, all of the chaos of everyday life will melt away. St James has been dubbed 'Millionaire's Mile' for its exquisite homes with even more breath-taking views. Although many of these houses display a quaint Victorian or seaside village look and feel, this remains a trendy retreat for locals and visitors alike.
The St. James Manor House is over a century old. Its age and character permeates its very air, giving it a charisma all its own. The private swimming pool has been carved into the mountain face, protecting it from the wind and giving guests the opportunity to swim and sunbathe in complete privacy while they take in the magnificent views of the bay.
Breakfasts are served every day and include a delicious array of flavours, colours and textures. Lunches and dinners can be arranged, if required. As the many local fishermen return with their catch, restaurants and visitors are able to buy fresh fish, straight from the sea.
Attractions and Activities
The Main Road through St James and Kalk Bay (eventually leading all the way through Fishhoek and Simon's Town) is the home of a plethora of intriguing shops and boutiques, antique sellers and art galleries.
In addition, Kalk Bay alone boasts an amazing variety of eateries, from gourmet restaurants to some of Cape Town's finest "fish 'n chip" cafés. These are all within a few minutes' walk from the St. James Manor House.
Across the Main Road are the swimming beaches and tidal pools. Having a dip in these refreshing waters is the perfect way to start or end the day.
Those visitors that are interested in the rich naval and fishing history of the area are invited to go on a walk along the promenade and up the mountain paths. This will provide you with much information and insight into the earlier days of Kalk Bay.
This area is well-known for the abundance of Humpback and Southern Right whales that make their way along the coast between July and December. There are several lookout points, but guests of the manor will see them clearly from their rooms too. Of course, dolphins grace this coastline all year round and always delight their audience.
Cape Point, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet, is only 25 minutes' drive away, while Boulders Beach (famous for its colony of penguins) is a mere 15 minutes away.
St. James Manor House is made up of only six suites, assuring guests of intimacy and dedicated attention.
There are two Classic Suites (of approximately 70 square metres each), two Deluxe Suites (about 60 square metres each), a Superior Double Suite and a Standard Twin Suite (each about 30 square metres). All suites have the convenience of en-suite bathrooms, heated towel rails, heated floors, private safes, bar fridges, televisions with satellite, hairdryers, cosy bathrobes and luxurious bath products.
Accommodation includes scrumptious breakfasts and free drinks (of reputable brands).
The St. James Manor House is optimally positioned to take full advantage of the warm ocean waters without being too hit by the winds. The swimming pool and relaxing sundeck, overlooking False Bay, are just some of the many extra facilities at this 5-star retreat that make it so special. Additional features include an in-house chauffeur, airport transfers, resident bars, spa treatments (on prior arrangement) and 24-hour security. Tours can be arranged through the hotel, if necessary.
