Colona Castle is situated just off the scenic road of Old Boyes Drive in Lakeside, Cape Town. From this elevated position, guests are able to enjoy some of the most awesome views of Cape Town available. From here, the mountains, lakes and stunning beaches are all visible from an entirely unique perspective.
Colona Castle is on the coast of False Bay, which has significant historical relevance, and is aesthetically gorgeous. Although it is somewhat separate from the busy city centre, the hotel is accessible and easy to reach via a series of large motorways. It is also only about 30 minutes' drive from the Cape Town International Airport, making it a convenient stop-over for visitors from all over the world.
In keeping with its classic, elegant style, the 7 suites available at Colona Castle have been decorated using antique furniture and various significant art pieces. There are 4 Standard Suites, 1 Family Suite and 2 Superior Bedrooms, ensuring that all the needs and requirements of the guests are met under one roof. All rooms are equipped with a flat screen TV and DVD player.
The rooms are distributed as follows:
Safari Suite (Family Suite) - This comfortable suite is spacious and inviting. It sleeps 3 people and has an entrance and lounge combined. One bedroom is equipped with a stylish queen-sized bed, while the other has a ¾ bed. The en-suite bathroom, shower and face-to-face bath in true Victorian style only add to the opulence. From this suite, guests can gaze across the Sandvlei Lake, False Bay and Cape Peninsula.
Green Room (Superior Room) - This room is equipped with 2 ¾ twin beds, which can be joined to form a king-sized bed. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a spacious shower, and its private conservatory and balcony promise spectacular views of the garden, lake, Peninsula and Atlantic Ocean.
Moroccan Room (Superior Room) - This mini-suite has an inviting queen-sized bed, separate dressing area, and additional shower room. It is air-conditioned for the ultimate comfort of the guests and boasts a private patio with stunning views.
Mogul Suite (Executive Suite) - Sheer luxury awaits guests of this suite as they enjoy the air-conditioned bedroom with a king-sized bed (or 2 ¾ twins), an en-suite bathroom with marble finishes, open shower, separate lounge area, 2 additional reclining beds and a dressing room. From this room, the iconic Table Mountain is visible, as is the ocean and Sandvlei Lake.
Chinese Suite (Executive Suite) - The extra-length, four-poster, king-sized bed in this room promises relaxation and rejuvenation, while the air-conditioning assures the guest of comfort. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a marble shower and Victorian-style bath. The lounge is separate and the undercover balcony is the ideal spot from which to appreciate the magnificent sights, sounds and smells of the Mother City.
New Suite (Executive Suite) - This suite is characterised by its proliferation of marble and glass throughout. The king-sized bed has 4 posters and is extra-length, while the stunning en-suite bathroom has a large face-to-face bath with lumbar support, a separate steam shower with a bench and a cloakroom. The private patio has stunning views of the surrounding landscape and ocean.
Penthouse Suite (Full Luxury Suite) - Colona Castle's Penthouse Suite is opulent in its spacious luxury. The extra-length king-sized bed, air-conditioning, library-cum-lounge and private balcony define the essence of style. The bathroom is trimmed with marble and the open shower is spacious. The views include Constantia, Table Mountain, the Cape Peninsula, Sandvlei Lake and the ocean.
English Suite (Full Luxury Suite) - The king-sized bed (extra length) can be separated to form 2 ¾ twin beds. Each of the bedrooms enjoys en-suite bathrooms with open showers, a Victorian-style face-to-face bath and a cloakroom. The separate lounge and private balcony are perfect escapes after a busy day, topped off by their stunning views.
Services and amenities
Breakfast is included in the accommodation at Colona Castle. The laundry and valet services are available to all guests, as are secretarial services, IT ports, Wi-Fi Internet access, the swimming pool, an executive chef, a private butler (on request) and 24-hour security. Guests requiring a bit of TLC can enquire about the in-suite therapeutic spa treatments, guaranteed to leave the stresses and strains of daily living far behind. Secure parking is available on request, and transfers to and from the airport can be arranged, if necessary.
Water sports are a popular choice amongst the guests of Colona Castle. Not only are there several beaches in close proximity, but also Sandvlei Lake, which is fantastic to yacht, windsurf or canoe along. Should guests feel a tad more adventurous, they are encouraged to embark on a deep-sea fishing excursion or dive with sharks from the protective confines of a cage. Watch the whales enter False Bay between July and December, or simply frolic and surf the waves of the surrounding beaches. The various bergs in the area provide fantastic walking, hiking and cycling trails.
Cape Town is known the world over for its iconic Table Mountain, the gorgeous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the historically- and politically-relevant Robben Island, the expanses of stunning vegetation at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the incredible abundance of wine farms in and around the city. These attractions are all easily accessible from the Colona Castle. Kalk Bay is in the opposite direction to the city, and is a charming fishing village steeped in tradition and heritage. Its main street is lined with shops, restaurants, antique stores and bookshops. Cape Point is a stunning sight, home to a nature reserve, and the point at which the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. In Simon's Town, thousands of penguins occupy Boulders Beach, and visitors are able to swim and walk amongst these intriguing creatures. The Rondevlei Nature Reserve is a wetlands area and is home to impressive hippos and a variety of bird species.
No fewer than 4 world-class golf courses are within close proximity to Colona Castle, taking only a few minutes to access by car. These are Westlake, Clovelly, Steenberg and Royal Cape. Clovelly boasts stunning views, while Westlake can be a fairly easy course in the right wind. Steenberg is interesting and the Royal Cape is full of history, better suited to more experienced golfers.
From Colona Castle it takes on 25 minutes to reach Table Mountain, 15 minutes to reach Simon's Town and Boulders Beach, half an hour to arrive at Cape Point, 20 minutes to the V&A Waterfront and approximately half an hour to an hour to reach the surrounding wine farms in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek, Durbanville and Somerset West.
From Cape Town International Airport, take the N2 highway towards Cape Town. After about 10km on this road, it will begin to rise at the foot of Table Mountain. Shortly thereafter, take a left onto the M3 to Muizenberg. Continue until the M3 ends at a traffic light. Turn right, and then left at the first traffic light (towards Stonehurst). Upon reaching the traffic circle (roundabout), keep left and enter Westlake Drive until the T-junction. Turn right into Boyes Drive and continue for 3km. Turn left into Old Boyes Drive until you reach a hairpin turn. Turn left and keep on Verwood Street, in which the yellow building of Colona Castle is situated.
From Somerset West or Stellenbosch, continue along the N2 highway towards Cape Town. Turn left onto the R310 called Baden Powell Drive. Drive along this road for about 25km. You will arrive at a roundabout called Sunrise Circle, continue straight. Turn right after the bridge at a set of traffic lights into Muizenberg's main road (the sign will read "Wynberg / City").
Turn left into Old Boyes Drive (per signpost), which will lead into Boyes Drive. Turn left and continue ascending the mountain until you reach a sharp hairpin turn. Proceed straight along Verwood Road and Colona Castle will appear on the left.
